I have developed websites before, always using Dreamweaver.  I am no longer in a position to have access to that software, so am using a limited one.  I believe everything I require is included.

I have also downloaded Filezilla

I have spent the last almost 24 hours straight trying to get this site started.  Obviously I did something wrong somewhere, but for the life of me I CANNOT figure out what it is.

When I am using ftp, everything says it was successful, but where the heck are my files?  Why is the index.html (all lowercase) in my public_html file not showing up as my homepage?  Instead I either get the HP error page, or random symbols everywhere.

I am thinking I would like to reset my entire account to default and let me start over.  I tried to do livechat and the wait was too long.  I tried to submit a ticket bu my user ID was rejected, then I was told I had tried too many times.  There's a 30 day guarantee, right?  Because I am beginning to think I possibly chose the wrong host.  I am not reading very many updates on the problems posted here.

I tried the soholaunch, but the limitations are beyond my understanding.

I'm not an idiot - I have done this for a living in the past.  I am overlooking something small and I know it.  PLEASE HELP ME!

TIA!!!
It's everything in me not to be profane right now - I am at the end of my rope.

What software are you using to code the site? The source code is useless but does mention hewlett packard.

Thanks.  I saw a reference to HP, but that was the host papa img.

I am using Serif WebPlus Starter Edition, and Filezilla for ftp - because I couldn't configure the ftp with serif.  I may discover the problems are connected and eliminate filezilla altogether. Hopefully.

In Filezilla, what is Transfer > Transfer Type set to? Make sure it is set to Auto and try the upload again. If that doesn't work send me an email with the source code for index.html and I can take a look.

The transfer type is set to Auto.

I just emailed tech support and asked for the site to be restored to its' defaults.  I will try again when that has been completed, and I hope to have found a solution.

If not, I will be back.

Thanks very much for your help.  Singlehandedly responsible for me NOT going insane ;o)

I am experiencing similar problems to you, so you have my total sympathy.

Sadly, however I am a total beginner!

I have set up an FTP account with File Zilla and using Hostpapa for both the domain name and hosting. I am using Dreamweaver CS5.5 to design the website pages.

My problem is that I can see all of the files in the Hostpapa Cpanel home page but cannot manage to get them to go live on the Internet. My domain name is chesterplumber.org. Each time I type the name into Google it sends me to Hostpapa.

I have been trying to sort this problem out since before Christmas, I set up a support ticket with Hostpapa and was informed that my index file was saved using a capital 'I', The support staff assured me this was rectified by some amendment he kindly made, but my website is still not operating.

I would like to make a really useful suggestion to Hostpapa support team: Compile a step-by step live tutorial showing new users how to set up their account, transfer webfiles, use of ftp and most importantly how to upload the webpages on to the Internet from Hostpapa. I have followed the tutorials offered by Hostpapa but there are no explanations as to how the ftp links to hosting and how to use it together with hostpapa or Dreamweaver.

There are many website design tutorials available on You Tube but I haven't managed to find one that would show me how to upload files from Dreamweaver to Hostpapa and why I need a separate FTP account.

A short lifelike production offering sound and vision by a competent person teaching new users how to operate Hostpapa with a typical website building program such as Dreamweaver and a Ftp provider would greatly improve customers experience and probably prevent customer support staff reiterating the basics to many new comers.
