Hi,

A friend of mind is designing a new site with Hostpapa, and he is having problems with his images.   He is getting little red x's on the images where the images should be.

I have a current website with Hostpapa (all is great) and don't really have that issue. . is there someone here who can help my friend?

Hi mob,
Basically there are 2 reasons that images won't show up and all you get is the red X placeholder.
1.   The image files are not in the folder the link is pointing to.
Example: the html code lists the path as folder1/folder2/image.  jpg but the image fiile, image.  jpg is actually in folder1.
2.    The link to the file contains folder names with a combination of upper and lower case letters, but the folders in the file manager are all lowercase.
Example: My_Site\Images\image.  jpg is NOT the same as my_site\images\image.  jpg.

Have your friend right click one of the missing images and click Properties.    Note the path to the file.    Have them log into their cpanel and go to File Manager.    Go into the public_html folder.    From here, make sure the path to the actual image file is the same as the path you got from the properties window.    Verify that all folder names match exactly.    This should fix the issue.    If it does not, reply with the domain name and I'll take a look into their account and see if I can find the issue.

You are awesome!
Great explanation - that was exactly the problem  :) :) :)

I have a similar problem.
In the code I have ...
<img src="../../images/resort.jpg"
when I right-click the x I see
http://www.rkfischer.com/images/resort.jpg
are these assumed "not exactly the same" Huh

edit ...
I just got your email ... my error was that my images folder was not within my public folder. Thanks for the very quick reply ...

When troubleshooting the "little red X" problem it is worth noting that when your browser times out for any reason before the image downloads you may see this problem. Try a refresh and make sure it isn't just stuck in cyberspace before spending time on a goose chase.

Now maybe someone at hostpapa can figure out why all the emoticons in the forums "post reply" are showing up as little red X's!! Grin
