I find this topic confusing.  I have read in several places that XHTML is suppose to be the future and that you should design web pages using that, but, then I notice other people saying that HTML is still the standard because it is used much more than XHTML and supported much better.  To add to that is that HTML 5 is in development.  If HTML is dead, why is there a new version coming out?

Another good question to add to this, is do you use strict or not?  And, do you find XHTML 1.1 overkill strict?  I ask this because I just read in a HTML book that XHTML 1.1 is too strict and they suggest not using it, and basically sugested using XHTML 1.0 Transitional.

XHTML is just a strict version of HTML but the code is the same. You can read about it on http://w3schools.com/

Basically there is no difference between these both. I think, xhmtl is part of html. It is nothing more this that  i told. Further more detail go to w3school.com.

The reason why target is deprecated is because frames are deprecated and frames are the only place where you need to be able to target a link. The rest of the time you should leave it up to your visitors as to what they want to open where.
