The £4.99 deal here looks quite good, but I'm not sure whether to go with the free domain for life or not.

If I want to change hosting at any point I assume I own the domain, but what would I have to pay for it if I am no longer a Hostpapa customer? And would there be any other costs of 'leaving'?

The other option would be to buy the domain myself, and pay £4.99 a month for it - which is obviously the more expensive option in this case!

Hello and I apologize for the late reply,

We do not charge you to leave with your domain name, however if you choose to leave within your 30 day trial we would not be able to refund you the cost of the domain name (£9.99 for anything but .co.uk which is £19.98 because this type of domain must be registered for 2 years).  The domain is yours to take but we only cover the cost as long as you are a Hostpapa customer.

What a load of rubbish i asked to move my domain after the 30 day trial and you now want to charge me £9.99 + vat? this is one of the reasons i went with you because of the free transfer of domains so is it free to transfer? or is it not free?

I think it is free to transfer your domain name to HostPapa. I am not surprised that they want to charge you for a domain they registered for you for free, but now you want to take it somewhere else.

totally agree, and personally I'd be willing to pay the transfer fee as long as it isn't to high, just to retain the domain name.
