Is any one using url rewriting on their website via a .htaccess file with the instruction 'RewriteEngine on'? tHE FILE AS FAR AS i know is sitting in the right place (in the root of my site direstory. I built my site originally on another ISP's server and have just transferred it to HostPapa. The URL rewriting which was previously working is not anymore, as many of the links within the site are now coming up as 404 not found.

I've emailed tech support and they tell me that Hospapa does support .htaccess but haven't been an more helpful at this moment in time. Anyone have any ideas what i need to do to get it working?

Hello,

Hostpapa does support .htaccess, in fact there is one in your public_html folder by default.  Unfortunately though, we do not support the development of your mod_rewrite code, this is up to the user.  If you have your .htaccess configured correctly and there are server related errors, please submit a ticket to Technical Support through htttp://www.hostpapasupport.com or by emailing support@hostpapasupport.com.  We'll be more than happy to address the problem and make any required changes.

Kind regards,
Nelson

We had the same problem after moving our site from another provider. It came down to the fact that we hadn't transferred our domain name over yet, and were just addressing our website by its ~ name: to get the rewriting working, we had to set the RewriteBase to our ~ name:

RewriteBase /~fbrdnipp

Hope this helps.
